PRE-TREATMENT CARE
o Avoid sun exposure (apply sunscreen daily and do not tan at all) for 2 weeks before treatment.
o Do not apply self-tanners or spray tans for 2-3 weeks prior to treatment.
o Do not use any retinol or retinoid products on the area to be treated for 48 hours before
o Let your doctor know if you have a history of hyperpigmentation.
o If you have a history of fever blisters, notify your doctor.
o You must notify the physician if you have had any cosmetic tattooing on or near the area to be treated.
WHAT TO EXPECT
o During treatment, pigmented areas will darken. Over the next 24 hours pigmented areas will darken about 50% their original color. The darker pigmentation is seen as dead cells by the body. The darker pigmentation is cleaned up by your natural would healing process. This process will take 10-14 days as the body heals. Superficial crusting may occur. It is important you DO NOT pick or exfoliate during the healing process.
o It is important that you don’t pick the tissue during healing process; this can cause hypo-pigmentation and possible scarring.
o Most patients will require 3 treatments to achieve desired results.
o Following laser treatments, it is beneficial to schedule maintenance facial treatments, and continue to use recommended skin care treatment products at home.
POST TREATEMENT
o Avoid sun exposure for 3 weeks after your final IPL treatment.
o Use of a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB with the highest SPF possible. It is critical when receiving any laser treatments, and is recommended for maintenance of results. Any sun exposure may darken or burn treated areas.
o Tylenol is recommended post treatment if continued discomfort occurs.
o Avoid any additional laser treatments or peels in treated areas for 3 weeks or until complete healing has occurred.
o You may apply ice packs, cool towels or Aloe-Vera to alleviate discomfort. Avoid any topical products until skin feels back to normal. This is not typically required.
o Call the office if any questions or concerns arise.
o Your physician may recommend a topical steroid if swelling is observed.
